Avira AntiVir Personal is a free version of the Avira security package. It includes a daily updated antivirus, fully functional and with access to all options. You will see, however, an advertisement screen every time it updates (once a day).
Avira AntiVir is an easy-to-use application, and you will not usually notice it. If anything is detected you will hear a buzzing sound and a dialog window will appear. All of its options are configurable to your preferences. You have the possibility to add files to quarantine or add them to an exclusion list, meaning they will never be checked again.
As any modern antivirus, AntiVir permanently scans your files, whenever you open, read, or write them, making sure no infection is being smuggled into your computer. Furthermore, if you want, you can configure it to look for prank software and general malware.
This is a good application, having scored high in antivirus tests performed by specialized publications. It is auto-updated daily, which means no user action is needed. However, the update options do not allow you to choose a specific time for it. Also, if you do a complete scan of your disk, some minor warnings will only be available in a long text report, not very easy to read.
Version 9 of AntiVir Personal now supports notebooks. The protection system was improved, the cleaning process enhanced, and the option to use default configuration values was added. |
